This delightfully-named hornpipe shows all the traits of a very old tune—a simple structure with only a few phrases repeated in both the first and second parts. The title makes me suspect the melody was associated with a song.

The earliest known appearance of this tune is from George Petrie's "The Complete Collection of Irish Music" published in 1903, tune #648 in Volume 2. This collection is available for viewing and download as a pdf from the Library of this website. A note in Petrie's book indicates that this tune was sourced from an even earlier manuscript of one Father Walsh.
